ShadeZone Tip of the Month: August

Make sure to have a blackout or room darkening option in bedrooms
While having a level of transparency in a window covering can be nice when you still want some light to pass through and brighten your rooms, this feature is not always desirable when you are trying to get a good night’s sleep. Using blackout or room darkening shades or curtains in rooms where you need total darkness solves this problem; however, having different types of window coverings in different rooms can take away from the uniform visual aesthetic of your home. Fortunately, many light-filtering shades and curtains can be adjusted to offer the option of a full blackout where and when it is needed. Cellular shades can be made with fabrics of different opacities depending on the requirements of different rooms. Dual and solar shades can have a blackout or room darkening layer added behind them. And curtains can be layered to give you the option of two different fabric opacity levels. Thus, you can display the same pattern in all your windows, while having full blackout curtains or shades in the places where you need them most. With these types of options available to you, there is really no reason not to treat yourself to the greater privacy and better sleep that having a blackout or room darkening shade provides.
