Are roll shutters the same as interior window shutters?+
Exterior roll shutters or rolling shutters retract into a headbox outside the opening. Interior shutters use hinged or sliding louvred panels inside the room. We help assess an exterior roll-shutter system around your opening, access, controls and intended use.
How are roll shutters different from indoor shutters?+
Roll shutters lower vertically outside an opening and retract into a headbox. Indoor California shutters use framed panels and adjustable louvres. They are separate products with different mounting and operating requirements.
Are all roll shutters security-rated?+
No. Slat construction, guide retention, locking, installation and any tested rating vary by system. Tell us what protection you need so the proposed product can be checked against that requirement. A generic roll shutter is not a guarantee against entry.
Can a roll shutter be motorized?+
Motorized systems are available in this product category. We will confirm the suitable operating method, power and controls for the selected product and your opening before quoting.
Will a roll shutter fit any window or door?+
The headbox, side guides and fixing points need adequate space and a suitable structure. Maximum width, height and area depend on the selected system. Access and building requirements must also be reviewed.
Do roll shutters replace exterior solar shades?+
Not necessarily. A closed slatted shutter creates a different view and barrier from a mesh fabric shade. Choose around whether your priority is filtered daylight, privacy, closing off the opening or a combination.
