Shape the light around your patio, deck or balcony with custom exterior roller shades. Compare zip-track and cable-guided systems, outdoor fabrics and controls for your space.
We begin with the opening, the mounting structure and the exposure. Tell us where the strongest sun comes from, how you use the area and what you want to improve. We then check measurements, hardware, fabric and power requirements before recommending a system.
Vertical patio shades lower across the open side of a covered outdoor area to filter low-angle sun. They complement overhead cover; they do not project out like an awning.
Compare zip-track side channels with cable-guided systems, then plan the fabric openness, mounting structure and controls. We assess exposure and clearances before confirming a system. A fabric shade should not be assumed to create a sealed insect enclosure.
Fabric edges run within side channels for a more contained treatment across a patio opening. A suitable system needs straight, secure fixing surfaces and a careful fit. We assess your opening before confirming the product and layout.
Guide wires help steady the bottom bar as the shade moves. This can suit selected outdoor openings, but the edges remain different from a tracked system. We review side gaps, exposure and the installation conditions with you.
Compare available manual operation with a motorized system. Tell us about power access and the controls you would like to use. Remote, app or automation compatibility must be checked for the selected motor and hub.
Start with how you want the space to feel: a brighter patio, less glare or more enclosure. ShadeZone helps you compare outdoor fabrics with your home’s finishes and daily use.
Open-weave screen colours
Compare these colours in the available open-weave fabric ranges. Ask us to confirm the exact openness and specification for your selection.

Insect mesh & blackout fabrics
Ask about standard insect mesh, a finer mesh for smaller insects, or an opaque blackout fabric. Effective insect exclusion depends on the complete installation. Blackout fabric alone does not eliminate light gaps.
Screen settings and lighting change how a swatch looks. View physical samples in our Coquitlam showroom; we confirm the current fabric range, colour, openness and suitability before ordering.
Openness describes the spaces in the weave. A tighter screen can reduce more light and glare; a more open weave generally preserves a clearer outward view. Neither option guarantees privacy after dark when the space behind the screen is lit.
Coordinate the hardware
Available finish references include White, Beige, Clear Anodized Silver, Gloss Black and Black-Brown. Confirm the finish for your selected channels, bottom bar and housing.
Size the complete system
Selected zip-track systems have reference limits of 6.10 m width, 5.20 m height and 18 m² area. These are separate limits, not dimensions that can all be combined. Fabric, mounting and exposure can reduce the permitted size. Housing options include 95 mm and 125 mm, subject to configuration.
Wind limits depend on the fabric, dimensions and installation. We confirm operating guidance for your specific system; a shade is not an all-weather enclosure.
BEFORE WE MEASURE
Plan the details. Enjoy the space.
Fabric, view & privacy
Compare physical outdoor fabric samples. Colour and openness affect glare, visibility and privacy; what looks private in daylight may look different when lights are on behind the shade.
Structure & clearances
Send photos of the opening, side posts, upper fixing area and nearby doors. Dimensions, alignment and obstructions determine whether channels or guide wires can be installed.
Exposure & everyday use
Tell us about wind exposure, sun direction and how often the opening is used. We explain suitable operation and care for the product selected for your location.
We measure, supply and install suitable systems across our service area. Building or strata approvals remain the customer’s responsibility.
What is the difference between outdoor shades and patio screens?+
Outdoor roller shades and solar screens manage sun and glare across vertical patio or balcony openings. Compare zip-track and cable-guided systems with the fabric, exposure and mounting structure. A shading screen is not automatically a sealed insect enclosure or an all-weather barrier.
What is the difference between zip-track and cable-guided shades?+
Zip-track systems retain the fabric edges within side channels. Cable-guided systems use guide wires to steady the bottom bar and do not seal the fabric edges in the same way. Suitability depends on the opening, exposure and selected product.
Do outdoor shades guarantee complete privacy or insect protection?+
No. Privacy varies with the fabric, lighting and openness. Insect protection depends on the complete system and its fit around the opening; a shade should not be assumed to create a sealed enclosure.
Can I leave the shades down in any weather?+
Use the selected system within the manufacturer’s operating limits. Wind performance depends on the product, dimensions, mounting and exposure. We do not promise a universal wind rating or all-weather use.
Can you install on a condo or strata balcony?+
We need photos, mounting details and the relevant building requirements before assessing the options. Obtaining strata or building approval is the customer’s responsibility. Some balcony structures and exposures are unsuitable.
Will one shade cover a very wide opening?+
Maximum size depends on the selected system, fabric and operating method. A wide opening may need more than one unit. We confirm the configuration after measurement rather than assuming a single shade will fit.
