The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

This Friday, September 30th, ShadeZone Blinds will be closed in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is a day to reflect on the history and legacy of the residential school system, as well as to honour the victims and survivors of residential schools. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation occurs simultaneously with the Indigenous-led Orange Shirt Day, which uses the symbol of the orange shirt to raise awareness about the history and legacy of residential schools and Canada’s relationship with Indigenous people more broadly. Based on the story of Phyllis Webstad, whose own orange shirt was taken from her on her first day at a residential school, the orange shirt is a symbol of the need for reconciliation and the belief that every child matters.

ShadeZone will reopen on Monday, October 3rd
