Did You Know Renoir Painted Window Blinds?

You may be familiar with the 19th century French painter, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and his famous works like Two Sisters, Luncheon of the Boating Party, and Dance at Bougival, but what you are probably less familiar with is the time he spent as a painter of window blinds. After advancements in mechanical porcelain decoration rendered his job as a porcelain painter obsolete, Renoir turned to painting window blinds. His success in this industry was significant enough that he was able to use his accumulated wealth to launch a career as the colourful picture painter who so captured the world’s imagination. Unfortunately, none of the painted blinds he worked on survived to today, but we can be confident that they were beautiful works of art as well.
